“Today’s Readers are Tomorrow’s Leaders”, We have read and quote this line so many times, but do we really believe it? In our society, the concept of reading has been long-forgotten. Read Pakistan was founded with the aim of promoting the reading culture in our society, and our young energetic members are furthering that cause. They believe that books have the power to change people, societies, and even nations. Each and every day, they are working hard to create awareness about the importance of reading.

The Alchemist:

Read Pakistan took an initiative of “Book Clubs” to create a space where reading would be encouraged, and members would set an example for others to do the same. Creating such community not only promotes values like tolerance, acceptance, and inclusiveness but helps people develop self-confidence. Paulo Coehlo’s “The Alchemist” was selected for the club activities in November. The plot revolves around a Spanish shepherd boy, Santiago, He recurrently dreams about treasure in Egyptian pyramids. He makes it his life’s purpose to find that treasure. After meeting an old king who offers him some advice and magic stones, he sets on his journey. He comes across difficult times, and challenges, but he keeps fighting. Thus, the main theme of this story is persistence and belief.

The Alchemist  is a novel  that was first published in 1988. Originally written in Portuguese, it became a widely translated international bestseller.

Book Clubs:

When you really want something, the universe always conspires in your favor” is one of the most famous lines of “The Alchemist”. The hard work and dedication of our coordinators proved that they did not just read this book but believed in it. They arranged book clubs in around ten institutes. In every institute more than twenty members participated in this activity. The participants were introduced to Read Pakistan and the goal of promoting a reading culture. The recurrent theme of the assigned book was “pursuance of dreams”, which was discussed in almost every club. Other themes such as, persistence, motivation, ambition, and aspiration were also discussed. Participants shared their opinions, and reviewed the book according to their own perspective. Thus, these clubs were a successful step by the coordinators to create a tolerant space where reading was promoted.
